There is no avoiding the hard graft ahead any longer – we are about to pick up work in earnest on our new global website and want to share our top tips for a successful and enjoyable project:
Tip 1 : Customer Profiles
Start with your customers and develop in-depth profiles of each customer group you want to attract to the website. Hubspot has a great template and guidance you can find here.
Tip 2 : Customer Experience
Nail down the customer journey and the experience you want them to have on your website. This needs to work like a dream and make your customers feel special and cared for. You will create a storyboard to ensure your new website works well for your customers and positions your offer from their perspective, highlighting what you do for them and not just what you do.
Tip 3 : Capture Customer Sentiment
Treat your clients to a coffee or lunch and spend an hour with them talking about your products and services – in their words! You will come away with keywords, content, testimonials and, if you ask, referrals to people they know. Take a few photos together and you will have the start of your new content plan. You can even provide a case study with images to your clients that they can use on their own website and social media profiles.
Tip 4 : Language and Domain
Be clear about your international website strategy and make sure you locate your new website on a .com or generic Top-Level Domain for maximum exposure to global search engines. Your language strategy will also be critical – talking to people online in their native language can increase sales by at least 400%
Tip 5 : Cultural Research
Do your cultural research and use words, images and videos that are a good fit for your target country, region or language. Looking at competitor and customer websites from the local region is a great place to start.
