Powerrun Pipe-Mech, a company specialising in bespoke water industry pipework systems, has seen its growth plans accelerate after adopting 3D scanning technology.

Since launching in 2017, Powerrun has relied on traditional, time-consuming site surveys involving tape measures and manual data collection. This not only slowed down project timelines but also required multiple site visits, increasing their environmental footprint.

Recognising the need for a faster and more efficient approach, Powerrun turned to Digital Enterprise to apply for grant funding. Through a Digital Accelerator Grant worth £10,000, the business was able to invest in a 3D site survey scanner.

This cutting-edge equipment has transformed Powerrun’s operations. Fewer site visits, reduced time on-site, and highly accurate measurements has minimised errors and rework, and workflows have been streamlined. Once measurement data is uploaded, it seamlessly integrates with existing CAD software and enables project engineers to start design work immediately.

The impact of the 3D scanner has been remarkable as the business, which initially set a 5-year goal of achieving 20% annual growth, is already exceeding expectations.

Aidan Chippendale, Finance Manager, who applied to Digital Enterprise says:

“Investing in 3D scanning technology has been a game-changer. It has significantly improved efficiency within the business and has allowed us to expand our services to include 3D site scans. Not only does this new service provide additional value to our existing customers, but it also opens doors to a new client base. As a result of the increased demand, we’ve recruited four new roles and we’re looking to bolster capacity.”

“We’re delighted to be ahead of our 5-year growth plan with a record number of orders on our books,” Aidan continues. “The support and funding from Digital Enterprise has been invaluable, and investing in this technology is a true testament to how innovation can drive success.”

Martin Howarth, Digital Growth Advisor at Digital Enterprise, comments:

“What is seemingly a small piece of digital hardware has had a huge impact on Powerrun. This investment exemplifies how digital technology can revolutionise traditional industries, drive efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enable impressive business growth.”
