Free Digital Support for West Yorkshire SMEs – Join the Digital Knowledge Exchange
Digital tools shape how businesses reach customers, manage their time and make decisions. But for many small business owners, knowing where to start can be a challenge. That’s where the Digital Knowledge Exchange (DKE) comes in – a fully funded programme that has already supported over 650 West Yorkshire businesses to make better use of digital technology.
Registration for the third and final pilot cohort closed on 26 June 2026. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part. As this was a trial programme, we don’t currently have confirmation on whether future cohorts will run, but we’ll share updates here as they become available.
If you’re looking for support in the meantime, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority offers a range of programmes for SMEs across the region.
What is Digital Knowledge Exchange?
DKE is a pilot project funded by the Department for Business & Trade and delivered by Leeds City Council through the Digital Enterprise programme and in partnership with UMi. It is designed to explore how digital adoption support can help small businesses become more efficient, resilient and ready for growth.
The programme supports SMEs based in and around West Yorkshire, across all sectors. Whether you’re at the start of your digital journey or looking to build on what you already have in place, DKE is designed to meet you where you are.
More than 650 businesses have already taken part in earlier cohorts, with many reporting greater confidence, clearer digital priorities and tangible improvements to how their business operates.
What support is available?
All businesses that join the 4-month programme receive free support with a wide range of digital topics:
- Artificial intelligence (AI) – Discover how AI can save time, automate routine tasks and support smarter business decisions.
- Digital marketing – Learn to attract new customers, boost online presence and run cost-effective campaigns.
- Customer relationship management (CRM) – Unlock tools to build lasting customer relationships, personalise communications and drive repeat sales.
- Cloud software and productivity – Explore cloud apps to manage businesses on the go, increase efficiency and collaborate seamlessly.
- Cyber security & data protection – Gain practical skills to safeguard customer data, keeping teams compliant and secure.
What businesses say
Feedback from earlier cohorts highlights the value of clear guidance, trusted advice and the confidence gained from having time and space to focus on digital improvements.
Businesses have spoken positively about the practical nature of the support and the clarity gained around next steps – from improving online presence to implementing new systems and processes.
Registration for this pilot programme is now closed, with the final cohort starting in July 2026. Thank you to everyone who took part across all three cohorts – we look forward to sharing the outcomes of the pilot in due course.
